Trip to Biokovo

Biokovo was proclaimed a nature park in 1981 for its natural beauty, special plants and animal species. On different altitudes and in different circumstances some vegetation forms have developed from Mediterranean to alpine. Rare species such as the golden eagle, griffon vulture, wolf, boar, chamois and muflons can be found on this mountain. Various shapes of karst, caves, pits which are few hundred meters deep and sinkholes are an integral part of Biokovo. There is a paved road leading up to the top of St. Jura (1762m) with a beautiful view on Split, Omiš, Neretva River, the island of Brač, Hvar, Korčula, Visa and Mljeta and the Pelješac peninsula, Imotski and Vrgorac and when the view is the clearest you can see all the way to Italy. The integral part of the nature park of Biokovo is the Kotisina garden (16,5 ha) in which hundreds of plant species can be seen.
